Soy Candle Musings...
Wik started with Afterpay a few weeks ago and wow have you guys kept us busy with it! You don't know what Afterpay is? When you checkout from our website it will give you an option to pay by Afterpay. When selecting this, it will take you to the Afterpay website. Here you either login with your Afterpay Login or you setup an account with them. You then make 4 payments, each fortnight, over 2 months to Afterpay - and the best bit is - it is totally interest free AND you get your goodies straight away! Its a win win for you the customer.
Apparently it has been around for a while, I only discovered it as a business owner about a month or so ago (I tend to bury myself under a rock sometimes).
I am seasoned 'bill smoother' - in my 'day job' I have always been paid monthly, so I pay a little bit on all my regular bills each month. So when I saw Afterpay I thought, wow you have stolen my process, bahaha. In all seriousness, it is a great budgeting tool (if you are strict with yourself) and allows you to spread out your purchases. I love it and have used it myself recently.
If you have any questions at all about Afterpay (or anything else!), please get in contact with us. Happy to help.
Did you know that all our candles come beautifully boxed? All our products make the perfect gift, but we think boxing our candles add that little bit of luxury too. Our only candle not to be boxed yet is the Avalon tins, but I am on the lookout for the perfect box! Our Kensington Extra Large soy candles have the most glamorous box of all - the cylinder. Check it out, it is simply stunning.
You should also check out our Gift Packs collection. We have tried to bundle up our products, not only to give you better value - but to show you the perfect gift as well. Burner + Melt packs start from just $19 and are also a great starter pack for those wanting to try Soy Melts for the first time. For many years now I have given burner and soy melts as gifts to people, even before starting this little business - and they have always been well received.
Our Travel Tin bundles are an absolute hit at the end of the year as Teacher gifts, but might also be a fantastic way for you to give our soy candles a try for the first time. They are small and fantastic value if you wanted to try a few different fragrances.
We have been asked in the past to send products direct to present recipients with a little happy birthday message included, which we are more than happy to do. :)
My love sways constantly between Soy Candles and Soy Melts. When I am in full test mode on new candle jars or tins... I think candles are the most amazing product on earth. When I was testing our Crackle Collection (for like... 2 whole months!), it was total love. At the moment though, I have been burning lots of our new fragrances in my melt burners (yes, plural.. I have lots of burners)... so I am all about Soy Melts.
It seems many people share my current passion... our market last weekend at Windsor Riverside, people went crazy over melts. And so they should! They really are an amazing product and brings the old 'oil' burner back into fashion.
Fragrance load is something chandlers will talk about a lot. Soy wax in general is limited to how much fragrance you can put in it. Some soy wax will even look as though it has curdled (probably not the right word for it - but it does look like that) - when too much fragrances has been put in it. However, the real clincher is the candle flame... too much fragrance in a candle and poof, it can catch on fire! Rest assured, all my candles have been tested and have the appropriate amount of fragrance in them. :)
Soy Melts though... no naked flame burning on these little suckers. So I do push the boundaries a bit with my melts and add a little extra fragrance in them than I do our candles. I love my melts to be super strong, my house has fairly big rooms and I like them filled! Of course there are more subtle fragrances that are just that, subtle... but thats how they are meant to be. On the whole though, Wik's Soy Melts are pretty powerful. I have had feedback early on to actually lower the fragrance in them, just a touch too strong, lol!
How long do they burn for you ask? I have put 20 hours on all my single shot soy melts which is on the lower end of average. I have never had any burn for under 20 hours, but have definitely had some burn for 40 hours. At $2.50 for a single shot (or as low as $2.08 in a pack), that is amazing value! One of our 12 packs of soy melts will burn for a minimum of 240 hours up to 360 hours, for $25 - or even lower when combined with a burner pack.
Go on... check out our Soy Melts... once you try them, I guarantee you will be just as in love as me!
If you follow us on Instagram or Facebook you will constantly see us posting photos of various soy candles in test mode. Why test a candle you ask? Don't you just light it and it burns? Well no... its not that simple (I wish it was!). There are so many competing elements in a candle that can make it burn differently, that testing is a must! That is why we do test though, so that it is that simple for YOU... you just light it and it burns perfectly, making your home smell amazing.
The perfect burn on a candle is for the wax to meet the sides of the vessel in a good amount of time. A 'good' amount of time depends on the vessel, but is usually within about 2-3 hours. If we were looking at miniature bomboniere candles though, it might be much less. Then there is the melt pool... is it too big, too small? I have been known to get my tape measure out, just to be sure. I'm an analyst by trade, so everything really does need to be perfect for me.
As a soy candle user, you might not know just how many different wicks that are available for chandlers to use. Not only are there many different sizes, but different brands too. If a chandler chooses to change brand, then it is a fresh round of testing on every vessel they use (it will be a long time before I choose to change brands!). Wick size is so important, even more so if we choose to use more than one in a candle.
It is a constant balancing act. The bigger the wick, the faster it will burn - and we want to give you value for money, so we are always aiming for the longest burn. The same goes for using more than one wick - a multi wick candle will generally always burn quicker, so it is all about trying to choose the right combination for the slowest burn - while still ensuring it burns to the edge - each and every time!
Fragrance also plays a part in how a candle will burn. Some fragrances are very thick while others have the consistency of water, each fragrance may interact with the wax differently, and therefore burn differently. Fragrance load in a candle is a whole other blog post, lol! Needless to say though, fragrances also need to be tested.
All of these components - wicks, wax, fragrance... it all plays a part in how long your candle burns. So when I quote to you, either on our website or in person, that your candle will burn for X amount of hours - know that i have tested it and, if you are following our Candle Care instructions, your candle should burn for this same amount of time.
Bringing you luxury soy candles in the highest quality is our aim. We will always endeavour to do this for you, so rest assured, every single product you buy from us has been tested inside and out.
